Are there still any reasons to be excited about Apple’s upcoming iPhones? There are new sizes, new products of iPhone coming to the market. But there is problem with iPhone which cannot be fixed so claimed by a one time partner of the iPhone producers.
Qualcomm financial chief, George Davis, has confirmed that Apple will solely use its competitor’s modems on its upcoming handsets. In his words he stated:
“Apple intends to solely use our competitor’s modems rather than our modems in its next iPhone release,”
This competitor is Intel and independent testing has repeatedly shown this month that Qualcomm modems deliver vastly better real-world 3G and 4G performance compared to Intel modems.
So how long will it take Apple to launch a 5G smartphone without Qualcomm? Well, this year Qualcomm will launch its first 5G smartphone modem, while Intel is a year behind – so this disparity looks set to continue for iPhone customers for years to come.
It is possible therefore that android phones might just be faster than iPhone.
Why this problem or move? Apple and Qualcomm are currently involved in a long-running and increasingly acrimonious legal battle over patent infringements and royalty disputes. As such, rather than work it out, the two companies have parted ways and everyone – Apple.e, Qualcomm and each new iPhone buyer – loses.
How deep do you think this move is going to affect the iPhone producers, and it’s users?
